Certainly one of the last things the world needs is another fleece jacket. Sure it could be a useful basic, specially when you need something warm and relatively lightweight. But do we need more of them? About as much as we need more government. So... what's up with the jacket to the left? Well, it ain't fleece. It's a pile (from Latin, pilus, hair). The difference is that we start with the finer denier fibers instead of normal size yarns. Then, after knitting we shear it to a rich, plush height and gently tumble it to soften it even further. The result is something that feels like a coat of a golden retriever puppy. And, naturally, we haven't just stopped with a thoughtfully engineered fabric, we have added adventure of things in it. With this jacket by your side, you'll be glad you have your old fleece stuff donated, or dropped off for recycling.
